Medina Sunrise Rotary Announces $100,000 Impact Grant for Akron Children’s Medina Expansion!
Medina Sunrise Rotary is proud to announce an impact grant of $100,000 to Akron Children’s for its new Medina Health Center. With a planned opening in March 2025, the Medina Health Center will consolidate three Akron Children’s offices into a single location with an expanded service offering. Medina Sunrise Rotary’s grant is the first major gift of the project and exemplifies the Rotary principle of “Service Above Self.”
Medina Sunrise Rotary is honored to play a significant role in this endeavor. With over 15,700 Medina County children already benefiting from Akron Children’s care in our area, Rotary recognizes the profound impact this new facility will have on the health and futures of the young people in our community.
The Rotary’s decision reflects our shared belief in Akron Children’s mission and our commitment to ensuring that every child has access to the highest quality healthcare. This partnership represents a shared vision for a healthier, brighter future for our children, and we are excited to see the positive outcomes that will emerge from this collaboration. Together, we are building a future filled with promise and possibility.
Since 1890, Akron Children’s has been a beacon of hope and healing for children across Ohio. Their commitment to excellence in patient care, education, research, and advocacy aligns perfectly with Rotary’s mission of making a meaningful difference in our community.
“We are so grateful for the support of the Medina Sunrise Rotary,” said Shelly Brown, chief development officer and executive director of the Akron Children’s Foundation. “Like the Rotary, Akron Children’s is committed to making a difference in the lives of children in our community. The Medina Health Center will bring world class care closer to home for the residents of Medina and surrounding counties. And we are honored that the Rotary selected Akron Children’s as a philanthropic partner.”
Since the chapter’s inception in 1994, MSR has raised more than $1.5 million for various organizations that focus on children. Whether through grants, scholarships, or local school programs, MSR’s careful stewardship ensures that their donations will have a meaningful impact. The group has consistently given to the Children Center of Medina County and Feeding Medina County. MSR believes that Akron Children’s will join those ranks.
“This gift is a statement about our faith in the community, our supporters and Akron Children’s as an institution,” said Janet Newcomer, MRS secretary and executive director of Feeding Medina County. “Not a single organization does more work for our community than Medina Sunrise Rotary. I am so proud to be part of this chapter and the impact we’re making.”
In 2024, the Medina Sunrise Rotary will donate $138,200 to vocational and college-bound students, charities and organizations helping children in the Medina community.
We invite our fellow Rotarians, community members, and supporters to join us in this vital mission. Your support is invaluable, and we are deeply grateful for your commitment. Together, we are not just building a new care center; we are building hope, health, and happiness for every child and family in our community. Let us continue to work hand in hand with Akron Children’s Hospital to ensure that the children of Medina—and beyond—can look forward to a future filled with promise and possibility.
